Sea Lanes Brighton: Wellness, Team Building, and Community by the Seaside

Our guest blog today comes from Sea Lanes, a member of our C100 Business Club. In this blog they share their inspiring journey of building a vibrant seaside hub that promotes wellness, community, and team building in the heart of Brighton.

As we reflect on our journey with Sea Lanes, it's incredible to see how much we've accomplished since opening. What started as an ambitious project has blossomed into a vibrant hub of health, wellness, and community spirit right, thanks to the incredible support from our local community, partners, and the dedicated team behind the scenes.

Overcoming Challenges

The path to creating Sea Lanes wasn't without its hurdles. The Volks Railway, the oldest operating electric railway in the world, runs through the middle of the site so timings were key. Existing concrete slabs had to be carefully removed with minimal vibration so as not to cause damage to the cast iron Madeira Terrace structures.  Additionally, our long, narrow site provided limited storage space, making logistics a constant challenge. The safety and welfare of the public was front of mind, building near a railway and on a busy seafront site meant careful attention was paid throughout and information was provided regularly via newsletter and noticeboards to the local community.

Despite these hurdles, the construction was completed within 12 months. We took pride in working with local suppliers and a team of experts from the area, ensuring that Sea Lanes truly was a community-driven project. Our pool was crafted in Norfolk, and the building frame was sourced from a contractor based in Portslade. Even when the pandemic added further complications to the supply chain, our commitment to completing this project on time never wavered.

A Year of Growth and Achievement

Since opening, [HS1] we're thrilled to have welcomed over 90,000 unique swimmers to our 50-meter, six-lane accessible outdoor heated swimming pool. But Sea Lanes is more than just a pool - it's a community of 19 local businesses offering fitness, health, wellness, food, and beverages, all working together to create a holistic seaside experience. We’ve also made great progress with our placemaking strategy to enhance Sea Lanes for its members and the local community including businesses.

Our dedication to sustainability is another highlight of our journey. We've implemented energy-saving measures across the pool complex and partnered with a Brighton-based company to monitor our energy use. This collaboration is crucial as we work towards our net zero target, and we’re excited to continue refining these efforts in the years to come.

Team Building by the Sea

One of our core missions at Sea Lanes is to promote health and wellbeing, not just for individuals, but for teams and organisations as well. In today's world, where loneliness and disconnection are increasingly prevalent, we've seen firsthand the power of shared experiences in building stronger, more cohesive teams. That’s why our team-building packages are designed to foster genuine connections, helping teams to bond while prioritising their mental and physical health.

Whether your team is looking for adventure or tranquility, we’ve got you covered. From sea kayaking and paddleboarding to guided meditation and yoga, our activities are designed to rejuvenate the mind and body. After a day of activities, your team can unwind on our expansive roof terrace, enjoy some delicious food and drink, and soak in the stunning sea views. It’s the perfect way to bring people together in a relaxed, stress-free environment.

Celebrating the Seasons

As we move into our second year, we're excited to announce new ways for our community to enjoy Sea Lanes. This winter, we're offering special Christmas and New Year's Eve packages, allowing locals and visitors alike to celebrate the festive season with a unique seaside twist.
